Hey hey!
Its me, surprise, I’m blogging! I’ve missed writing so much and have come up with so many fun ideas for the weeks approaching!!! I’m thinking of blogging every Wednesday like I did a while back! I’m sitting in my sea side appartment and as I was scrolling through Instagram I saw someone post about oats milk. I’m almost 100% positive I’m lactose intolerant and although the dairy free alternatives are endless, they tend to be full of sugar and additives. Whenever I get the chance to make a plant based milk, I try it. Almond milk was a bit labor intensive and the same price, if not more, than buying an organic almond milk, so I decided to try oats milk. It was surprisingly super easy and only took about 10 minuets.
You want to make sure to have ether a cheese cloth or a hand strainer (I used a hand strainer and it was just as cool as a cheese cloth lol) after adding all the ingredients in the blender, blend until it is a thick, frothy liquid. Then, poor over the mixture in the hand strainer and with a wooden spoon or spatula, press the “oat meat” against the strainer to make sure it all drains. Toss the left over oat meat out (or use it for oatmeal but hearing it up and adding barries!!!) and poor the left over liquid back into the blender. Blend and continue prosceas until you’ve reached your desired consistency. I did it about two times and it was perfect!!!!
This was easy, fast, and inexpensive and the best part is that I know exactly what’s going into it because I made it! I hope y’all enjoy it and if you make it, use the hashtag #lifevialivi so I see your post! HAPPY MILKING!
1 cup rolled oats
4 cups water (use less water for thicker, creamier milk!)
1 pinch salt
1 whole date, pitted or 1 Tbsp (15 ml) maple syrup. Add more if you’d like it a bit sweeter!!!
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
BONUS: 2 Tbsp cocoa or cacao powder for “chocolate milk”(optional)
XOXO
